2023 Memorial Day services, parades and other ceremonies in central Pennsylvania. (2023)

Numerous townships and counties throughout the central Pennsylvania region will host Memorial Day-themed parades, ceremonies and other events to honor military members who have died in the line of duty.

Adams County

Gettysburg Nationalfriedhofoffers 90 minutesRemembrance Day programat 6 p.m. May 27. Visitors should meet at the cemetery's entrance on Taneytown Road for a guided walking tour that focuses on the stories of some of the fallen soldiers buried there. The event is free.

The156th Gettysburg Day Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony takes place at 2:00 p.m. May 29. The speaker will be F. Harold Kushner, M.D., F.A.C.S. be. U.S. COL Medical Corps Army (retired)

Cumberland County

Mount Olivet Friedhof,198 Old York Road, New Cumberland will have a Veterans Memorial Salute from noon to 2 p.m. May 25. Flags will be placed at over 500 veteran graves. New Cumberland Mayor Thad Eisenhower and historian Linda Ries will speak during the ceremony. About: 717-774-2150.

The Hampden Township Veterans Recognition Committeewill hold its Run to Remember 3-mile walk/run at 8:45 a.m. at the Captain Leon Lock Veterans Memorial, 4345 Marketplace Way, Enola. Silver Spring Townshipwill hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. May 29 at Willow Mill Park in Mechanicsburg. This year's high-profile speaker will be Representative Thomas Kutz of the 87th State House District. Several veterans are honored with paving stones placed at the memorial earlier this year. The Common Council of Carlislewill host a Memorial Day Parade on May 29 at 9 a.m. starting at North Hanover and North Street. Then continue south on Hanover Street, past the square and turn right onto West Pomfret Street. The parade then continues west and turns right onto South Pitt Street. US Army War Collegewill host a Memorial Day ceremony at 950 Soldiers Drive, Carlisle at 11:20. Retired Army Lieutenant and Vietnam veteran Robert Noonan will speak and the Carlisle Town Band will perform. There will also be a 21-gun salute from the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and a plane pass from two vintage Korean War-era planes.

The Navy's Marine Corpswill hold a memorial service at 1:15 p.m. at the Branch Bridge along King Street in Shippensburg. Guest speaker will be Richard Bonitz, Lt. Col. U.S.M.C. be. Right. Hummelstownwill hold a Memorial Day parade on May 29 at 10:00 a.m. A service will follow at 11 a.m. at Hummelstown Cemetery, 186 S. Railroad St.

Lebanon office

Nationalfriedhof Indiantown Gapwill hold its 40th annual Memorial Day program at 2 p.m. May 28, rain or shine. The program will take place in the parking lot above the Pennsylvania Veterans Memorial. Col. Keith E. Burkepile, senior Marine and assistant professor at the Army War College, Carlisle, will deliver the keynote address, while Joseph Snyder, vice president of the Memorial Council, will serve as master of ceremonies. Shuttle bus transport starts at 12.00 from MSC Industrial Supply Co. 100 MSC Drive, Jonestown.
